:* When the cable begins to tighten, it will pull on the accelerator rod pulley. This will open the throttle plates and idle speed will increase. :* Stop at this point and back off a quarter turn. You want all slack out of the cable, with no tension on the accelerator rod pulley. While it makes logical sense to eliminate as much slack as you can from the cable without causing the throttle to open, you're actually introducing some other factors ... like the weight of the pedal and the friction of the throttle cable itself. The cable is supposed to have some play, and not taught. Why do you think new cars don't have taught throttle cables?
